I'm at the airport for my next trip. However, my flight has been canceled. I evaluated my options to take the train, rent a car, change airlines. I decided to wait for the next flight.
I have just walked you through a concise leadership communication method called SCAR. It stands for Situation, Complication, Answer, and Recommendation.
For the introductory Situation, it is a concise non-controversial summary that everyone can easily agree. For the middle Complication, it is the change in the Situation that needs to be solved.
The final step is to provide the options to solve the issue and either answering how the problem was solved or looking for their input and/or decision.
This is a great tool for concise communication to leadership, but use at your own risk with your spouse.
